Exotic male dancer sued after act leaves woman burned and scarred

A Vancouver-based exotic dancer is being sued by a woman who claims his performance left her with second-degree burns and scarring on one of her legs.

In a notice of civil claim filed in B.C. Supreme Court, Kristen Momeyer says she was a patron at AuBar Nightclub on June 22, 2013, when dancer Brent Ray Fraser lit a skillet or small metal mixing bowl on fire on the dance floor as part of his act.

“The skillet then overturned, splashing fire on to the Plaintiff…causing second-degree burns to the Plaintiff’s leg as well as to her hands when she tried to put out the fire,” the statement says.

Momeyer claims the injury occurred because Fraser set a fire in an unsafe location, creating unreasonable risk or harm.

Fraser, who calls himself a performance artist, is known for his unusual public displays.

In June 2014, he filmed a guerilla-style video of himself eating a steak meal fully nude at the corner of East Hastings and Main Street, outside of the Carnegie Centre.

Fraser is also widely known for his paintings, which he creates using a particular body part.

The lawsuit also names AuBar Nightclub and Seemore Entertainment as defendants, as they both do business out of the venue and “allowed the dangerous activity to be performed without taking any or adequate steps to stop it.”

Momeyer also named a fourth defendant, the operator of a company that allegedly provided Fraser’s services, saying the company “did not properly educate or supervise the Defendant Fraser despite knowing that party of his act involved the use of fire.”

She claimed the injuries she sustained have resulted in a loss of earnings, the amount of which have not been fully determined, as well as related medical expenses.

In a response to the civil claim, Raphel Exotic Entertainment operator Diego Natale disputed the manner in which Momeyer said she was injured, and denied that the incident was caused in any part by his company’s negligence.

He instead claimed it was caused by Momeyer’s own negligence, and that “she appeared in front of Fraser thereby disrupting his activities, causing the incident.”

The statement also alleges that Momeyer’s ability to make observations may have been impaired by drugs or alcohol.

Fraser could not be reached for comment Wednesday.

None of the claims have been proven in court.
