Authorities have issued a public warning after a man whose criminal history includes manslaughter, sexual assault and robbery moved into a Vancouver halfway house. Tyler Gordon Strathdee is a dangerous offender believed to pose a “high risk to commit further physical and sexual violence,” the Vancouver Police Department said in a news release Friday. Strathdee is serving an 11-year sentence for several serious offences committed in Alberta, but moved to Vancouver last year after receiving statutory release. The release allows him to serve out the remainder of his sentence in the community under strict conditions. Police arrested him again in February 2025 in connection with a robbery in the city’s Downtown Eastside. He has since been charged, tried and acquitted, allowing him to return to the community, authorities said. Strathdee remains under conditions that prohibit him from consuming alcohol or drugs, associating with anyone involved in criminal activity, or being in the presence of sex-trade workers. He’s also required to report “all sexual and non-sexual relationship and friendships with females to a parole supervisor,” police said. The VPD said investigators from its High Risk Offender Unit will be working with Correction Service Canada to monitor Strathdee, but urged anyone who sees him breaching his conditions to contact police.
