Crews scaling back search for missing hiker in Coquitlam

Volunteers are scaling down their search for a 65-year-old hiker who went missing on Coquitlam’s Burke Mountain one week ago.

To Sang “Alfred” Wong was last seen in his vehicle at his home near Apel Drive and Coast Meridian Road around noon last Tuesday, Nov. 4.

Police found his Grey Chevrolet Cruz with the B.C. licence plate JPH139 at the Coquitlam Lake View trailhead in the 5000 block of Harper Road the following day.

In the days since, search and rescue teams from across the region have put in over 2,000 person hours on Burke Mountain looking for Wong, using helicopters, drones, e-bikes and dogs.

Though fewer people will be involved in the search going forward, Coquitlam Search and Rescue says volunteers continue to work tirelessly to find the hiker, including on Tuesday.

The Coquitlam RCMP describes Wong as an Asian man with a “slim build” and balding, grey hair who is 5’3” tall.
