Coquitlam RCMP renew call for help identifying suspect in January stranger assault

Mounties in Port Coquitlam are renewing their appeal for help identifying the suspect in a stranger assault that occurred back in January.

Coquitlam RCMP shared additional photos of the suspect in a news release Tuesday, while acknowledging that the photos contain limited information.

“Our investigators are exhausting every possible avenue to identify the individual involved in this stranger assault which left the victim with significant injuries,” said Sgt. Adriana O’Malley, in the release.

“We recognize the suspect’s face is not visible but our hope is that someone may recognize the suspect based on their clothing and physical stature.”

The person in the photos is alleged to have struck the victim with an “edged weapon” during an “altercation” in the 2800 block of Shaughnessy Street on Jan. 12.

Police have previously said that the suspect and victim did not know each other.

A preliminary photo of the suspect released on Jan. 21 did not lead to confirmation of his identity, police said Tuesday, adding that their investigation is “active and ongoing.”

They described the suspect as a man with dark hair who was wearing a blue and purple tie-dyed hoodie, a black zip-up vest, black pants, black boots and black gloves. His face was obscured by a black face mask.
