Commercial truck strikes overpass on Highway 1 in Surrey

A commercial truck struck an overpass on Highway 1 in Surrey Wednesday morning, leaving it “visibly damaged,” according to authorities.

The B.C. Highway Patrol said the strike was reported around 9:30 a.m. at the 192 Street overpass in the eastbound lanes, and that the vehicle involved was a flat-deck carrying an excavator.

“Police are working with the Ministry of Transportation and Transit to ensure the roadway is safe,” a statement from Mounties said.

“Police are working with Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement to investigate how this happened and ensure appropriate enforcement,” the statement added.

Drivers are being warned to expect delays through the morning.
