Smoke and flames rose above the SkyTrain tracks in Burnaby, B.C., during an explosive truck fire Wednesday evening. Crews were called to the parking lot of an auto repair shop at Gatineau Place and North Road around 7:10 p.m., where a commercial cube van was fully ablaze and a second car was partially on fire. Ian Hetherington, deputy chief of the Burnaby Fire Department, told CTV News the van was full of butane canisters that were “becoming projectiles in all directions.” Bottles of butane were also littered on North Road, which was closed to vehicles and pedestrians during the response. While the business and truck were substantially damaged, there were no reported injuries. Burnaby RCMP confirmed the fire was deemed not suspicious. The road reopened around 10 p.m.
