B.C. woman buys lottery ticket after sheep gives birth to 5 lambs

On CTV Morning Live, Adam Sawatsky uncovers an adorably fluffy one-in-a-million chance frolicking across the sunny fields of Prohibition Farms!

SAANICH, B.C. — If this was a normal day, the first ewe to answer Ashley Rose’s call of “here sheep” would be Abigail.

“She just wants her face rubbed and her ears scratched,” Ashley says.

But this is no normal day.

Abagail’s not with the other sheep. And then there’s that male sheep in the middle of the flock, who Iooks different than usual.

“He’s not as impressive when he’s all shaved down,” Ashley says.

He’s usually sporting a large poofy hairdo that earned him his name.

“His name is Fro,” Ashley smiles. “But we also call him Stud Muffin, because he’s the only ram on our property.”

Fro and Abigail first met while working together at Prohibition Vineyards.

“(The sheep) fertilize our vineyards,” Ashley says. “They keep all the weeds down and keep (the grass) to a golf green.”

It was in between mowing the lawn that one thing led to another for Fro and Abigail.

“We were just expecting twins,” Ashley says of Abigail’s pregnancy.

Which is when the normal day turned anything but, after Ashley arrived home from picking up her kids from school.

“We drove down into the pasture, and we saw three little heads,” Ashley smiles. “And they were like, ‘Oh! She’s had three!’”

That was a record number. Not just for Abigail, by all the ewes on this farm.

“Then my daughter Scarlett’s like, ‘Oh! There’s a fourth one!’” Ashley smiles. “And then I saw the other one and it was like, ‘Wait a second! There’s five!’”

Ashley’s kids didn’t believe her at first. They said that was “impossible.” But now there’s no denying Abigail had quintuplets. And they were all healthy.

“When we Googled it,” Ashley says. “It said a one-in-a-million chance.”

So, just in case the luck was lasting, they bought a lottery ticket.

Then they returned to supporting the new mom in whatever way they could, including bottle-feeding the runt.

“I’m just making sure he gets a little bit extra,” Ashley says before the little lamb starts suckling. “So he can keep up.”

While Fro has returned to his nine-to-five of mowing lawns and growing a seductive hair style, Abigal is working around the clock to care for her lambs. Ashley’s kids are helping too, which she hopes proves inspiring.

“It’s showing how much hard work and sacrifice (a mom) has to do for their children,” Ashely says.

Because although it is rare for sheep like Abigal to have this many babies, the boundless love these moms are showing them is not.
