Metro Vancouver Mounties say they seized thousands of kilograms of precursor chemicals used to manufacture illicit drugs, as well as firearms and cash, in a recent operation. The Burnaby RCMP Gang Enforcement Team’s investigation began last July, when they say a traffic stop led to officers seizing four kilograms of precursor chemicals commonly used to make fentanyl. Investigation into the driver led to police identifying three additional suspects and “several crime scenes,” according to a Thursday news release. On April 1, several police units including the heavily armed Emergency Response Team and Clandestine Laboratory Enforcement and Response unit executed search warrants at five sites in Richmond—three homes and two Sea Can shipping containers. According to police, officers seized 6,765 kilograms of precursor chemicals and “finished product,” including methamphetamine, fentanyl and oxycodone. The searches also yielded about $30,000 in cash, six guns, ammunition, 2,900 contraband cigarettes and two vehicles. Police say the investigation continues.
