BC Hydro crews repair Christmas power outages in Richmond

The trees weren’t lit up at some Richmond homes on Christmas morning, as BC Hydro crews scrambled to repair two power outages affecting thousands of customers in the city.

More than 5,000 BC Hydro customers located across the Fraser River from Sea Island were affected at the height of the outages, both of which were reported shortly after 6 a.m.

Crews working the holiday were able to restore power to most of the homes within a few hours, and had finished the rest by early Thursday afternoon.

The cause of the outages was listed as “cable failure” on the BC Hydro website.
