BC Ferries running on ‘revised’ schedule between Tsawwassen and Swartz Bay

A mechanical issue with a vessel has forced cancellations on BC Ferries’ busiest route—once again raising questions about the reliability of the aging fleet.

A mechanical issue with a BC Ferries vessel has prompted the company to cancel sailings along its busiest route during the second week of spring break.

The Tsawwassen-Swartz Bay route will be operating on a “revised schedule” through March 30 due to a problem with the starboard generator, according to a service notice issued Monday.

“We continue to investigate the issue and will keep you informed as more information becomes available,” the notice said.

The cancelled sailings out of Swartz Bay are the 8 a.m., noon and 4 p.m. departures. From Tsawwassen, the 10 a.m., 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. sailings have been called off.

“We know you have important places to be. We appreciate your patience and apologize for any inconvenience you may experience as a result of these cancellations,” the BC Ferries service notice said.

Customer service reps will contact those impacted by the cancellations to arrange for alternate travel or refunds.
