Two men suspected of kidnapping a 62-year-old man from his home in East Vancouver Wednesday night have been arrested and charged. Fazeel Salman, 26, and Reignings Besong Awah, 24, have each been charged with one count of kidnapping and remain in custody, police said in a statement Friday. The Vancouver Police Department says a home invasion and kidnapping was reported around 9:15 p.m. Wednesday. Officers spotted the suspect vehicle near Slocan Street and East Broadway about 30 minutes later. “The suspects did not stop for police and were pursued to the area of 14th Avenue and Woodland Drive, where officers boxed in their vehicle,” reads the VPD release. Police say the suspects fled the vehicle but were taken into custody with help from the VPD’s Canine Unit. “The victim was taken to hospital with injuries,” police said in Friday’s statement. B.C. court records show Salman has no prior criminal convictions, while Awah has appeared once before in Vancouver court on a municipal bylaw matter alleging he smoked within six metres of a building opening. The pair is due back in court on March 23. CTV has asked the VPD if the suspects and victim are known to each other. This article will be updated if a response is received.
