The first weekend of fall has arrived in Metro Vancouver and, as always, there’s plenty to do. Here are some events and activities you may want to check out. Metro Vancouver Croissant Crawl A self-guided tour of specialty croissant offerings starts this weekend. The Metro Vancouver Croissant Crawl features 35 vendors across the region offering limited-edition croissants, sometimes with specialty drink pairings. Crawl-goers can collect stamps in a “croissant passport” and post photos of their adventures on Instagram to be entered to win gift cards to participating vendors. The event begins Friday and runs through Oct. 4. A map of participating vendors and their offerings can be found on the crawl’s website. Harvest Days at VanDusen Vancouver’s VanDusen Botanical Garden is launching its annual Harvest Days event this weekend. Featuring live music, face painting, lawn games, crafts, food trucks and “autumn activities for all ages,” the event will take place each weekend between now and Oct. 18. Harvest Days is included with garden admission, which can be purchased online or at the door. The event will be held this Saturday and Sunday, plus Oct. 3 and 4, 10 through 12, and 17 and 18. Interior Design Show An event celebrating all things design will take over the Vancouver Convention Centre’s west building this weekend. Interior Design Show Vancouver bills itself as “the premier showcase of new products and furniture, superstar designers and avant-garde concepts from North America and beyond.” A kickoff party is scheduled for Thursday night, with “trade days” for those in the industry on Friday and Saturday, along with public access to the show on Saturday and Sunday. Vancouver Comic and Toy Show More than 400 large tables of comics and pop culture collectibles will be set up at the PNE Forum this weekend for the Vancouver Comic & Toy Show. Organizers also promise industry guests, professional Star Wars cosplayers, food trucks, door prizes and more. The show runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Tickets can be purchased online in advance or at the door. 40th Annual Mid-Autumn Festival: Moon Palace Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden is inviting guests to “enjoy an afternoon and evening of lanterns, traditional performances, hands-on activities, cultural stories, and festive moments for the whole family” at its Mid-Autumn Festival this weekend. From 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, the garden will transform into the Moon Palace as part of the garden’s 40th anniversary celebrations. Tickets can be reserved on the garden’s website. Fort Langley International Ukulele Festival Head to Fort Langley this weekend for the second annual Fort Langley International Ukulele Festival. Events connected to the festival have been ongoing around Langley since Tuesday, but this weekend’s free gathering at salishan Place by the River will feature concerts, hula performances, ukulele jams, an open mic, vendors and more. The festivities run from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Oddball Fall Classic Dragon Boat B.C. is hosting the “Oddball Fall Classic” in False Creek this Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Between races, spectators can enjoy live entertainment, food trucks and family activities in Milton Wong Plaza North, near the seawall. Hockey is back and more for the sports fans If dragon boats aren’t your thing, there are lots of other sporting events happening around Metro Vancouver this weekend, including a Vancouver Canucks preseason game. The puck drops against the Seattle Kraken at Rogers Arena at 4 p.m. Saturday. The B.C. Lions get the weekend started against Saskatchewan on Friday night at B.C. Place. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. Vancouver’s MLS and CPL clubs are also in action at home this weekend, with Vancouver FC hosting Forge at 4 p.m. Saturday in Langley and the Whitecaps hosting DC United at 7:30 p.m. at B.C. Place. The Abbotsford Canucks also have a preseason game this weekend against the Calgary Wranglers on Sunday at 6 p.m., while the Vancouver Giants are in action at 4 p.m. against Prince George.
