Police identify 46-year-old man in ‘targeted’ Vaughan homicide

York Regional Police say they are investigating after a man was found dead at a home in Vaughan early Sunday morning, in what they are describing as a “targeted incident.”

Police say officers responded at around 1 a.m. to a residence near Andreeta Drive and Barons Street, where they located a victim “suffering from trauma to his body.”

Officers say he died at the scene despite life-saving efforts.

In a news release, police identified the victim as Vaughan resident Abdul Aleem Farooqi. He was 46 years old.

Vaughan Mayor Steven Del Duca shared his condolences to Farooqi’s family in a social media post, where he vowed to keep the community safe however he can.

“Vaughan is a safe community and I will do everything in my power to ensure it stays that way-but we can’t do it alone. We need immediate and urgent action from the federal government to fix our broken bail system and protect our residents,” Del Duca wrote.

Officials say they are searching for at least three suspects, who were last seen wearing dark clothes and face coverings.

A large police presence is expected in the neighbourhood as officers canvass the area for video.

Residents with security cameras are asked to review their footage and make it accessible to investigators.
