Toronto releases line of Pan Am-themed condoms

Public health officials have launched their second Toronto-branded condom wrapper design as part of a campaign to promote safe sex in the city.

The "CondomTO" campaign released its latest look on Wednesday, featuring Pan Am and Parapan Am Games-themed wrappers.

The round wrappers feature running shoes and ribbons, along with piles of crumbled athletic clothes. The wrappers bear the slogan, "Let the Games begin."

"As we welcome thousands of visitors and athletes to the city this summer, we want to encourage healthy and safer sex," Toronto City Coun. Joe Mihevc said in a statement on Wednesday.

CondomTO was introduced in the city last year, ahead of the World Pride festival. The campaign follows a string of successful initiatives in U.S. cities including New York and Los Angeles.

"Why are cities branding their own condoms? It's simple, when condoms are more easily accessible and available, condom use tends to increase," the Toronto Public Health website states.

Thousands of condoms will be distributed for free at visitor information centres, sexual health clinics and other locations.
