Toronto police asking for help to find suspect in assault investigation

Toronto police are asking for the public’s help in finding a suspect wanted in an assault and threatening investigation.

On Tuesday, June 23, police were called to a report of a theft in the Kennedy Road and Progress Avenue area.

They allege that the suspect visited a grocery story and loaded a shopping cart with items from the freezer section.

The suspect allegedly put the items inside their backpack and walked past the cash registers without paying.

A store prevention loss officer confronted the suspect outside the store’s doors and tried to restrain them.

The suspect allegedly assaulted the employee and then brandished a knife, threatening to kill them.

They then fled the area on foot.

Police describe the suspect as approximately 40-years-old with a medium build and a goatee. They were last seen wearing a dark-coloured t-shirt, camouflage pants, white shoes, a black and white bucket hat with a white flower pattern, and a light brown backpack.

Anyone with information, dashcam footage or security video is being asked to contact police.
