Porter Airlines reintroduces fuel surcharge amid market uncertainty

Porter Airlines says it is reintroducing fuel surcharge pricing as global oil prices continue to rise.

On Friday, Porter Airlines said it will “temporarily readjust the surcharge to $40” because of recent “unexpected and sharp price increases,” a Porter Airlines spokesperson said in a statement to CTV News.

“This is not the direction we wanted to take. While these recent market shifts have stalled our progress in removing the surcharge, our commitment remains unchanged.”

Porter said it plans to remove the surcharge entirely when “market conditions allow.”

In March, Porter added a similar fuel charge to flight prices due to unstable market conditions. In June, that fuel surcharge was halved to $20 for rewards flights.

Oil prices have been unstable since July 8, when U.S. President Donald Trump said the ceasefire agreement between the U.S. and Iran was “over,” sending waves throughout international oil markets.
