In-N-Out Burger 'pop-up' sells out in first hour

It took just 60 minutes for fans to buy up all the burgers, after hundreds of people lined up for hours on Thursday, at a restaurant hosting a temporary "pop-up" outlet of the popular U.S.-based fast food chain In-N-Out-Burger.

The hamburger stand opened at 11 a.m., but fans started lining up at 7 a.m. to wait for the burgers.

By noon, the wristbands promising wearers a burger were sold out, and the line stretched two blocks around the restaurant.

A CTV Toronto photojournalist at the scene estimated that there were 500 people hoping for food. Twitter users in the area had similar estimates.

Usually, burger fans would have to travel to California, Arizona or Texas, to sample one of the chain's vaunted "double-double animal style" burgers.

But Toronto burger fans lined up to get a piece of In-N-Out Burger's one-day-only burger stand. In-N-Out is known for its cheap burgers made from fresh produce and beef, and its "secret menu" that has been exposed all over the Internet.

Double-double animal style is a secret menu option that combines two patties, pickles, grilled onions, and mustard fried onto each patty.

Also not listed on the menu, but available to order, are the "protein style" burgers wrapped in lettuce instead of a bun, grilled cheese with onions and tomato, and a triple-patty burger called the "3 x 3."

The pop-up shop is taking over Italian restaurant Ganzi Osteria on Jarvis Street, just north of Wellesley, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
