Environment Canada calling for significant rainfall across Ontario

TORONTO — Environment Canada is calling for 15 to 40 millimetres of rain and thunderstorms across Ontario, leading to potential flooding.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement calling for 15 to 40 millimetres of rainfall, with locally higher totals possible due to thunderstorms.

Rain combined with mild temperatures is expected to melt much of the existing snowpack, as frozen ground will limit absorption, increasing runoff.

Water may pool on roads and in other low-lying areas as snowmelt adds to the rainfall.

The weather agency says several rounds of showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected to continue through Saturday evening.

Drivers are being urged not to drive through flooded roads and to watch for washouts near rivers and creeks.

Environment Canada says that for more information on flooding, consult your local Conservation Authority or the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources office.
