November 2023: Sissi De Flaviis is no longer with the company

Sissi De Flaviis is a freelance writer for CTVNews.ca. She joined the team in May 2023 and is passionate about storytelling, digital content creation and community building.

Sissi moved to Canada as a teenager. She is proud of her Venezuelan-Italian roots and has been fortunate to learn about different cultures around the world.

She is an alumna of the Carleton School of Journalism, where she had the opportunity to complete an internship under Reuters in Prague, Czech Republic. She also held various leadership roles as a student, including Vice President of Student Issues at the student union.

After graduating, she helped launch the second volume of Carleton University’s magazine, Raven and worked as a breaking news reporter for Capital Current News. Her passion for digital storytelling led her to CBC Ottawa, where she developed and managed the social media strategy as a Communications Assistant.

In 2021, she moved to Whitehorse, Yukon, for her latest adventure as a reporter/editor for the CBC. In the North, she interviewed Governor General Mary Simon, told stories of Indigenous communities, new Canadians and climate change experts in front of and behind the camera.

Sissi speaks three languages, Spanish, English and Italian. You can follow her on Twitter at @sissideflaviis
