Two Melfort men are facing multiple charges in connection with a shooting earlier this month. In an update issued Wednesday, RCMP revealed its officers executed a search warrant at a home on 1 Avenue South on July 8, where they seized a loaded crossbow, ammunition, a firearm, 75 grams of cocaine and drug trafficking paraphernalia. A man and two women were arrested at the home. Police say during the search, another man arrived at the home in a vehicle. He was arrested after officers saw firearms inside the vehicle. Two loaded firearms were also seized. As a result of the investigation, a 23-year-old man is charged with several firearms related offences, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 and possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking. A 53-year-old man is charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm, unsafe storage of firearms, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 and possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking. Both accused are scheduled to appear in Melfort Provincial Court on Aug. 31. Police say the two women arrested during the search were later released without charge. The charges stem from an ongoing investigation into a shooting on 1 Avenue South on July 7. RCMP say an altercation took place between a group of people and a gun was fired. Two men were injured and taken to hospital, one with serious injuries and the other with injuries that were described as not life-threatening. Melfort RCMP say they continue to investigate with assistance from the Saskatchewan RCMP’s Prince Albert General Investigation Section.
