Saskatoon is expected to receive its first snowfall of the season beginning Thursday morning, according to Environment and Climate Change Canada. The federal weather agency says up to 12 centimetres of snow could fall by the end of Saturday, Nov. 8. “Snow is on the way. Today would be a good time to get your winter tires on and finish yard work, if you haven’t already. Stay tuned to your local forecasts (and possible alerts) to be prepared for changes in the weather,” Environment Canada said. Temperatures are also expected to dip to minus 14 C by Saturday. The City of Saskatoon says its crews and equipment are fully prepared to respond to the winter weather. Road conditions may deteriorate due to a mix of rain and snow, combined with below-zero temperatures. Crews will monitor high-traffic streets and apply de-icing material as needed, starting with Circle Drive and the city’s freeways. “Drivers should adjust their driving for the road conditions and leave extra room in case you need to stop suddenly,” the city said in a statement. Saskatoon Transit is also preparing for potential disruptions. While service will continue the city says delays or interruptions may occur.
