The Alliston Potato Festival celebrates 53 years of good-spuddin’ fun this year. Not only is the family-friendly farm festival a celebration of all things fun, this year they’re amping up the frivolities with a whole basket of mascots to entertain the crowds. Potato festival folks are asking businesses, agricultural societies and community groups to send their mascots to the fair on Sunday, August 9. “Everyone loves meeting a mascot and taking a fun picture,” said Beth Wink, executive director of the Alliston Potato Festival. “We hope businesses and organizations will see this as a fun, no-cost opportunity to promote themselves, connect with the community and help us launch a new APF tradition.” Mascots are invited to meet festival attendees, pose for pictures. They will also join Tater Tim at the Recycled Teenagers Classic Car and Truck Show and help him select his favourite vehicle. Organizations that have a mascot costume but do not have someone available to wear it are still encouraged to participate. Responsible student volunteers may be available to bring their mascot to life during the gathering.
