Saskatoon religious communities patch blankets for refugees

Members from synagogues, churches and mosques in Saskatoon have spent the past week patching together fleece blankets to send to Manitoba. Each blanket will be given to refugees in a handmade bag and with a written welcome note.

Saskatoon communities are making blankets to keep refugees warm.

Members from synagogues, churches and mosques in the city have spent the past week patching together fleece blankets to send to Manitoba.

The blankets will be distributed to centres in Winnipeg and Emerson, where an influx of asylum-seekers has been crossing into Canada from the U.S.

Each blanket will be given to refugees in a handmade bag and with a written welcome note.

“It makes the refugees know that they are thought of and prayed for,” said Teresa Field, a volunteer at Holy Family Church.

The blankets will be sent out in about two weeks.
