Saskatoon police lay meth trafficking charge after early-morning call to 7-11

Saskatoon police charged a man with drug trafficking early Friday morning after responding to a call about a group of people who refused to the leave the downtown 7-11.

Saskatoon police were called to a business in the 300 block of 2nd Avenue North around 2:15 a.m. to disperse a crowd, but one man believed to be under the influence refused to leave.

“As officers continued to engage with him, a collapsible baton was observed in his possession,” police said.

He was arrested and later found to be breaching court conditions. Officers searched his bag and found nearly 200 grams of methamphetamine in his backpack.

The 38-year-old is now charged with breach of probation, possession of a dangerous weapon, and possession for the purpose of trafficking.
