Saskatoon police investigating two new homicides

Saskatoon police are investigating two separate deaths in the city as homicides.

The city’s homicide count doubled on Thursday after a man found unresponsive on Avenue X died of his injuries, and the death of a woman in a house fire last week was ruled a homicide.

The woman’s body was found by firefighters inside a burning home in the 400 block of Avenue I South on April 3.

Firefighters removed the woman, 61, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Now, police say her death was the result of a homicide — the city’s third of 2026.

Police say members of the Major Crime Section are continuing to investigate.

Saskatoon’s fourth homicide

The city’s fourth homicide of 2026 occurred early Thursday morning.

Police say officers were called to the 500 block of Avenue X South around 3:45 a.m. for a report of an injured person. When officers arrived, they found a 39-year-old man unresponsive.

The man was taken to hospital by Medavie Health Services West, where he later died.

Members of the Major Crime Section and the Forensic Identification Section are continuing to investigate.
