The City of Montreal said Wednesday it will apply three new measures to address its pothole problem. The announcement comes as Mayor Soraya Martinez Ferrada says the city has repaired more than 20,000 potholes in the past two weeks. “In every city, we collectively pay the price of decades of under-maintenance of thousands of kilometres of streets. It’s expensive to repair. It causes frustrations and [...] in some cases, even, it’s a case of safety issues,” she said. The administration will allocate an extra $1 million to boroughs whose pothole repair budgets have run out. “We’re going to be looking into what are the 3-1-1 complaints that we’ve received and [which are] the more urgent ones for sure,” Martinez Ferrada said at a press conference. Another $1 million will be used to cover manual patching contracts, to which qualified workers can apply. Finally, an additional $125,000 will go specifically toward repairing potholes on Notre-Dame Street. Related stories:
