Quebec man faces five more charges for alleged ‘grandparent scam’ in Sask.

A Quebec man arrested for defrauding multiple people in Regina and White Butte is facing new charges related to a grandparents scam in Saskatoon.

Regina police arrested two Quebec residents on Dec. 2 as part of a province-wide investigation into a series of alleged grandparent’s scams run in late November. Now one of the suspects, 50-year-old Ciprian Teodor, is facing new charges from the Saskatoon police.

“Between November 24 and 27, 2025, Saskatoon police received five reports of victims being defrauded of more than $45,000 by someone who claimed to be a grandson. The ‘grandson’ claimed that he had been involved in a vehicle collision and needed money to get out of jail,” the Saskatoon Police Service said in a news release Tuesday.

“Someone else would then attend to the grandparent’s residence to pick up the money. In each case the victims provided between approximately $5,000 and $26,000.”

Saskatoon investigators have linked Teodor to the crimes.

On top of five fraud charges from Regina and White Butte faced by Teodor and his alleged accomplice Alexandra Condurache, 40, he’s now facing four additional counts of fraud over $5,000, one count of fraud under $5,000, and a charge for breaching court conditions.

Saskatoon police say he’ll face those charges in Regina Provincial Court.

According to police, grandparent scams have become common in Canada, but there are precautions you can take to protect yourself.

“If you are the recipient of a suspicious phone call, ask important questions of the caller to verify their identity but refrain from offering additional details yourself. Alternatively, hang up and call that family member directly to verify their location and well-being and/or connect with other relatives to fact check the call,” police said.

“If the caller is claiming to be law enforcement or a representative of another profession, hang up and call that authority directly to verify the information. Fraudsters leverage urgency and panic to coerce the victim into complying with their requests and demands. Always use extreme caution, especially when being asked to send any form of currency.”

If you receive a suspicious call, even if you haven’t been victimized, police say you can report it to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre, your local police, or Crime Stoppers.
