Prince Albert police make multiple arrests after string of arsons

Prince Albert police had a busy night on Wednesday, leading into Thursday morning – with officers responding to multiple cases of arson.

The first incident was reported at around 9:15 p.m., at a gas station on the 200 block of 16th Street West where, police say a man allegedly stole a jerry can, lit it on fire, and assaulted one of the employees.

Officers intervened and arrested a 38-year-old man after a short chase on foot. He has been charged with assault, theft under $5,000, mischief under $5,000, arson, and resisting arrest.

Hours later at around 11:45 p.m., police saw a man lighting a home on fire on the 1000 block of 17th Street West.

Police say they quickly arrested the 34-year-old man without incident and put out the flames using a fire extinguisher from their patrol car.

The man has been charged with arson and failure to comply with a release order.

Finally, at around 10 a.m. Thursday, police were called to the area near the 200 block of 32nd Street West, after a man was reported to be lighting a vehicle on fire.

Officers arrived at the scene and found a man who matched the suspect’s description. He was arrested without further incident. The 27-year-old accused faces charges related to attempted arson, mischief and breach of probation.
