Fire in Saskatoon’s Evergreen neighbourhood causes estimated $600K damage to two homes

WATCH: A Saskatoon woman was able to help wake her neighbours when she saw their house caught on fire on Sunday night.

No one was hurt after two houses caught fire in Saskatoon’s Evergreen neighbourhood late Sunday night.

Emergency crews were called to the scene in the 100 block of Boykowich Bend shortly after 11 p.m., a City of Saskatoon news release says.

When crews arrived they could see heavy flames and smoke coming from the roofs of two houses.

Firefighters advanced multiple hose lines to extinguish the fire from the exterior of both houses and set up an aerial ladder to fight the flames on the roofs of the residences, the release said.

A Saskatoon fire investigator was on scene Monday morning to assess the damage.

According to the investigator, the fire likely originated around waste disposal bins between the two properties, 135 and 139 Boykowich Bend, and quickly burned its way inside both homes.

The fire department says 135 Boykowich Bend sustained the most damage, estimated around $500,000, while the other home sustained an estimated $100,000 in fire damage.

The investigator was unable to determine the cause of the fire due to the extent of damages.

All occupants safely evacuated and have been re-housed, according to the fire department.
