The Edmonton area has seen a record-setting June for rainfall and it's not done yet, despite the sunny respite. CTV News Edmonton's Jeremy Thompson reports.

The rain has largely ceased – for now – in Edmonton and surrounding areas, but some municipalities are keeping water use alerts in effect until systems have completely stabilized.

The capital city itself cancelled an alert asking residents to watch their water use on Monday night.

Lac Ste. Anne County, Beaver County and Stony Plain each issued overland flow advisories just outside Edmonton within 20 minutes of one another on Sunday as heavy rain battered central Alberta.

Most flooding alerts were cancelled by Tuesday as a brief pause in rain allowed for systems to stabilize.

Water consumption alerts are still up, however, in the City of Beaumont, Beaver County and the Town of Tofield.

Beaumont is asking residents to cut non-essential water use until further notice as a safety precaution while crews monitor the wastewater system. That includes limiting toilet flushing and avoiding dishwashing, laundry and long showers.

“Some neighbouring municipalities have lifted their alerts, but the city is playing it safer while our own system catches up, especially with more rain possible later this week,” read a Tuesday afternoon news release from the City of Beaumont.

Lac Ste. Anne is still experiencing “localized overland flooding” and has asked drivers to steer clear of certain roads as crews inspect the area. Lac Ste. Anne County is located an hour northwest of Edmonton.

Beaver County, which is located over an hour outside southeast of Edmonton, still has its water use alert up for the Town of Tofield and Beaver County from Range Road 171 to the west borders of the county.

Rain is expected to return through the weekend beginning Friday evening.
