GardaWorld hiring new ER staff after guards left an intoxicated man out in the cold last month

The private security company working out of Prince Albert’s Victoria Hospital is hiring.

Multiple security officers were barred from working at the hospital, or any Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) operated facility, after a video circulated on Facebook last month showing security removing an intoxicated man from the emergency room at night and leaving him in the snow.

Now, GardaWorld is recruiting to replace them.

In an ad posted on the company website, GardaWorld appears to be recruiting to fill six permanent positions at the hospital for a pay range of between $18.60 and $20.06 an hour.

“Do you have a passion to help people? Are you looking for a career that is both stimulating and highly rewarding,” asks the ad.

“In addition to ensuring safety and security, our ambassadors gain comprehensive experience in patient care, violence prevention/mitigation, and de-escalation tactics., and many go on to careers in nursing, social work or, and law enforcement, as they are working alongside these professionals every day, learning the essential skills required to succeed in this field.”

GardaWorld did not respond to multiple requests for comment from CTV News about whether the company has made any changes to its policies or training after the Dec. 11 incident, when the SHA confirmed its security staff did not meet health authority standards.

The SHA says GardaWorld has provided security at Victoria Hospital since September 2025.

In an email to CTV News, the SHA says it’s working closely with GardaWorld in Prince Albert “to ensure adherence to SHA’s operational standards and philosophy of patient-centred care.”

The SHA acknowledged the impact the Dec. 11 incident had on the trust and safety of Indigenous patients and said it was working with the Prince Albert Grand Council to establish an Indigenous patient liaison in the emergency department at Victoria Hospital.

“The [SHA] is committed to providing care that is safe, respectful, compassionate and culturally responsive. This includes a clear commitment to patient and family centred care, culturally safe and responsive care and to addressing and opposing racism in all its forms. These values guide our expectations for all staff and contractors working in SHA facilities.”

The SHA also pointed to its decision to install metal detectors in city hospitals, though it’s not clear how that measure would prevent a comparable incident from happening in future.

The metal detectors are being installed at Victoria Hospital next month.
