‘Enjoy what you want and have fun’: Saskatoon residents share highlights from Canada Day

WATCH: Canada Day celebrations brought the crowds to River Landing Tuesday, drawing both long-time residents and newcomers alike.

Thousands of people stopped by River Landing in Saskatoon to ring in Canada Day 158 on Tuesday.

Visitors had the opportunity to enjoy the games, music, food and various other activities offered along the river, and CTV News was there asking attendees what being Canadian means to them.

“I’m a farm kid, so for me, it’s like hunting and going fishing and doing all of those things, like being out in the wilderness and enjoying the beauty,” Sharon Morrison said.

One man shared that he’s been attending Canada Day celebrations with his family since they moved to the country in 2023.

“We are not Canadian yet, but we are trying to be. We came two years back, but we like Saskatoon a lot; Canada a lot. It is a very warm, welcoming country, and we are having a great time,” he said.

“To be Canadian, I think, is to be living in a free country, to do what you want, enjoy what you want and have fun,” said Andy Fairbother.

Fairbrother was in attendance with the Saskatoon Stock Car Racing Association to showcase some particularly fun vehicles to the public.

His daughter Emma was also in attendance. Emma said she was particularly excited for the evening fireworks display.

“Ya I want to see them … the sparkly colours.”

The fireworks are certainly a highlight for many.

While the promise of a spectacular display draws people in, Morrison pointed out there were many activities to enjoy while you wait for the light show.

“It’s usually the fireworks, and sometimes there’s really good food and music and dancing happening, so that’s always fun.”
