Saskatoon police say they were investigating a report of people carrying firearms in a park when an officer shot and wounded a dog. At around 11:30 a.m., on Friday, officers were called to the 400 block of Avenue T South following reports of people with firearms in a park. While officers were investigating, a large dog broke free from its owner and charged at officers, police said. The dog allegedly lunged at officers and attempted to bite them. Police say officers tried several times to de-escalate the situation and deployed a conducted energy weapon, but it had no effect. “The dog continued to act in an aggressive manner. At that time one of the officers discharged his service weapon, striking and wounding the dog,” police said. Animal Control attended the scene and took the dog for veterinary care. No officers were injured during the incident. Police say they did not see any firearms in the park, but they are continuing to look into the matter.
