It was a busy night for Battlefords RCMP with officers responding to more than 60 calls for service over a 12-hour period. RCMP say officers received the calls between 6 p.m. on July 29 and 6 a.m. on July 30. The calls included two serious assaults, four additional reports of assaults, three reports of vehicle thefts, 17 reports of disturbing the peace and mischief. Among the more serious incidents was an assault reported around 11 p.m. in a home on Sweetgrass First Nation. Police say two men were taken to hospital with serious injuries. Police have been searching for the suspects and anyone with information is asked to contact them. The second serious assault was reported at about 4 a.m. at a park in North Battleford. Police say a woman was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Officers arrested a suspect at the scene, but RCMP say charges had not been formally laid as of Thursday afternoon. Police say they also received a report of a missing person, who was later located safe. Two people wanted on warrants were also arrested during the overnight period. According to Thursday’s update, the Battlefords RCMP detachment is one of the busiest in the province, with the 12-hour period one of the busiest nights so far this summer. “We wanted to share a glimpse of the behind-the-scenes on nights like this. From our dispatchers at the Saskatchewan RCMP’s Operational Communications Centre to our frontline officers to our specialized policing services, we are working together to keep the Battlefords area safe 24/7,” Sgt. Bryce Pender said.
