‘Ashley’s family is still waiting’: RCMP again call for tips about missing woman they think was murdered in 2018

The search for a North Battleford, Saskatchewan woman who went missing in 2018 continues as investigators renew their pleas for information from the public.

Ashley Morin was 31 years old when she went missing from North Battleford on July 10, 2018. For years, investigators have treated her disappearance as a homicide, and have conducted multiple searches along the North Saskatchewan River, looking for her remains, or any sign of her.

In 2019, remains were found in a rural area outside the city and investigators were hopeful it could be Morin, but it turned out to be the body of Tiki Laverdiere, a woman whose brutal murder over an Indigenous gang feud would soon reverberate through the courts for years to come.

Morin’s case remains active in the hands of the Historical Case Unit, the RCMP said in a news release Friday.

“Over the course of the investigation, progress has been made with the support and cooperation of members of the community. However, investigators believe there are still individuals who have not yet come forward with critical information,” the RCMP said in the release.

Investigators believe multiple people were involved in Morin’s disappearance, and they’re pleading with anyone who was involved to step into the light and share what they know.

“Eight years is a long time to carry the weight of what happened to Ashley. We believe there are people who know the truth, and we are asking them to come forward now,” said Inspector Ashley St. Germaine, acting officer in charge of Saskatchewan RCMP’s Major Crimes Branch.

“Loyalties change, relationships change, and circumstances change, but Ashley’s family is still waiting for answers. If you know what happened, or if someone has confided information to you over the years, now is the time to speak with investigators. One conversation could be the breakthrough that brings Ashley home and helps deliver the justice and closure her family deserves.”
