Some of the best young golfers in Canada are getting into the swing of things at the Wascana Country Club, which is serving as the host course of the 2026 Canadian Junior Boys Championship. “These kids have aspirations and dreams to play at a higher level, whether it’s at college or some sort of professional and this is their starting point for doing that.” said Lindsay Folk, the host chair of the Canadian Junior Boys Championship. Travelling from Ottawa, 17-year-old Chase Jerome is one of those athletes who is playing on the Regina course for the first time. “It’s a pretty simple golf course; the greens are really good,” he said. “The greens are really like fast, I’ve seen greens like that before. It’s always fun to play on good greens.” Jerome has played the sport since he was eight years old, discovering his talent at an early age. “When I was kind of young, I was just like winning a lot of local events and moved up to provincial and won there and just kind of all over Canada and the U.S,” he said. “I just kind of won at different stages and just kept moving up.” Jerome is one of 156 athletes competing under 19 years of age and hopes this is an experience he can use down the road. Playing for almost 10 years, he’s reminded of what it takes to get to a tournament of this caliber. “When you’re young, you kind of want to play as much as you can and get reps in tournaments and understanding what it’s like to play in tournaments, and how it’s different than a regular round,” he said. “You kind of figure out what’s good in your game and what’s bad, then you work from there.” For the Wascana Country Club, it’s their first time hosting a national tournament since 2018. That tournament on-site was a historic one, where Canadian golfer Brooke Henderson won the CP Women’s Open, becoming the first Canadian to win on home soil since 1973. Lindsay Folk remembers that day very fondly. “I was standing at the 150-yard line with my husband and one of the other coaches, it was a big deal to have a Canadian win here in Regina.” she said. Folk also said that there have been over 100 volunteers for this year’s event. Of the 156 athletes competing, 12 of them are from Saskatchewan. The following members are in the tournament:
