Some Canadian children dream of becoming RCMP officers when they grow up, but two girls from Alberta got to experience that dream on Tuesday. Maya, 12, and Haley, 11, got the chance to serve as co-commanders at RCMP Depot Division. The pair donned the red serge uniform of the force and participated in the Sergeant Major’s Parade at the RCMP’s training academy. “It was a lot of fun. We got spoiled. We got to do stuff that not many kids get to do, and it was just a fun experience to remember for a lifetime,” Haley told media. The event was organized by the Kids With Cancer Society, allowing children who have been diagnosed with cancer to live out an “RCMP Dream Experience.” During the day, Maya and Haley were shown many parts of the cadet training program at Depot and even got to fly in the RCMP helicopter and airplane. Part of their duties included inspecting the cadets on parade. On Monday, they sat at the guests of honour table at a cadet graduation dinner. The Kids With Cancer Society’s program is intended to build happy and positive memories for young cancer survivors. The two were accompanied by their fathers who made the trip from Edmonton with them on the RCMP airplane – both of them happy to see their daughters enjoying their day. With files from Daniel Reech
