Souls Harbour Rescue Mission holds 35th annual Christmas dinner

Dozens of volunteers serve 600 guests at Souls Harbour’s 35th Christmas dinner, preparing 70 turkeys, pies, and all the holiday fixings.

The Souls Harbour Rescue Mission hosted their 35th annual community Christmas dinner on Tuesday.

Dozens of volunteers have been busy for the past three weeks preparing food for Tuesday’s feast. A total of 70 turkeys had been cooked, potatoes peeled, and pies baked.

Souls Harbour expects about 600 people will turn out for its Christmas dinner. That figure has been growing over the years.

Souls Harbour relies on donations to make the event happen such as turkeys, potatoes, pies and cash. The mission strives to provide more than just a turkey dinner with all the fixings.

“We want to make sure that everybody feels loved. That they feel christmas-y,” Kathy Ingram of Souls Harbour Rescue Mission told CTV News.

“Christmas is about friends, it’s about family, it’s about feeling like you’re a part of something, and we want to make sure that our community knows that we love them, and that we appreciate them.”

After dinner, everyone will receive a pair of warm socks stuffed full of Christmas treats and other goodies as they head back out into the cold.
