Sask.’s Maia Schwinghammer barely misses podium in Olympic debut

Saskatoon mogul skier Maia Schwinghammer fell just short of earning a medal in her Olympic debut in Milano-Cortina, Italy Wednesday.

With a score of 77.18 in her first run of the day, Schwinghammer was the lone Canadian to earn a spot in the Final 8.

In the super final, she scored a 77.61, good enough for second-best at the completion of her run.

However, with four skiers left to go, she fell just off the podium, ultimately finishing fifth place to miss out on a medal by just 0.39 points.

Americans Elizabeth Lemley and Jaelin Kauf took the top two positions winning the gold and silver, respectively. France’s Perrine Laffont rounded out the podium with a bronze medal.
