Sask. highway transport patrol officers given power to issue speeding tickets

Highway transport patrol officers have been given the authority to hand out speeding tickets in Saskatchewan.

The officers will issue speeding tickets to any driver caught exceeding 60 kilometres an hour in construction zones across the province.

Highway transport patrol officers will also occasionally help out with photo radar enforcement when the new system is launched later this spring.

The move comes after Ashley Richards, an 18-year-old flag person, was struck and killed in a construction zone near Midale last August.
