Sask. grant program helps many playground builds

Over $2.3M in grants have been approved to help parents and community groups build new playgrounds in Sask.

The Saskatchewan government announced that more than 40 projects have already been approved through its School Playground Equipment Program.

The program first launched in the fall of 2025 to support parents build new playgrounds and upgrade existing equipment on school grounds. Since launching, the province has approved more than $2.3 million in funding.

“Playgrounds play such an important role in the early development and formative years for children,” Parks, Culture, and Sport Minister Alana Ross said in a release.

“That is why we are proud to support the efforts of parent and school community groups to ensure every child has a place to play.”

Eligible projects can receive up to $50,000 in matching funds, equal to the amount raised by parents, school community councils and volunteers through fundraising efforts. Funding can be used for new playground construction or to replace or expand existing equipment.

The grant is open to parent and community groups connected to publicly funded schools, with projects required to be located on school property.

Applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, with the current intake period running until February 25, 2026. The province has committed $3.75 million annually over the next four years to the program.
