The holiday spirit was alive on Albert Street, as thousands of spectators lined the sidewalks for Regina’s 39th annual Santa Claus parade. For the last seven years, Wheaton Kia has been sponsoring and organizing the parade, bringing more than 60 organizations into the 2025 edition of the event – featuring decorated floats, holiday music, dancers, and the much anticipated arrival of Santa Claus. “We had about 65 entries today. And, every year they get better and better. So, it was really great to see all the creativity and all the work put into the floats.” said Greg Gilbertson, general manager of Wheaton Kia. According to Gilbertson, the reason for taking on the organizational role of this parade was to continue the longstanding Christmas tradition in Regina, after the parade was cancelled in 2018. “It’s been a holiday tradition in Regina for as long as I can remember. So, we just felt that it needed to continue and so far, it’s gone amazingly.” Gilbertson shared. He explained that the planning for the event continues year-round, that for him and others in attendance, the event kicks off the city’s Christmas season. “They enjoy seeing Santa, enjoy seeing all the floats, the dancers, and just really a community spirit.” It’s a huge crowd and everybody waits for Santa, and he doesn’t disappoint.” he went on to say. Amongst the thousands of onlookers in the crowd, was Cassie Ouellet, who brought her daughter and niece to attend their first ever Regina Christmas parade. “They were shocked by all the candy they’re getting. So, they’re really happy about that.” Ouellet laughed. Like many other youth in attendance, the girls were most excited to see Santa Claus and excitedly cheered as Santa went by in his sleigh pulled by horses. As the parade concluded, Santa stopped into the Northgate Mall to take pictures with many of the youth that were in the crowd. Gilbertson said it was another successful year of bringing the community together to share the holiday spirit, expressing his gratitude for all the people who made it possible. “We just want to give a huge thank you to all the participants, all the organizers, and all the volunteers. It’s an awesome job they do. We will continue as long as we can.”
