Regina police charge 3rd person in shooting that injured 11-year-old girl

Regina police have charged a third person in relation to the Aug. 11 shooting that injured an 11-year-old girl.

A third person has been charged in connection to a shooting in a residential neighbourhood that injured an 11-year-old girl early last month.

On Thursday evening, officers arrested 41-year-old Michael Mayer in connection with the shooting. He faces a total of eight charges including attempted murder, reckless discharge of a firearm, conspiracy to commit murder and five other counts related to firearms and stolen property.

Mayer made his first court appearance Friday morning.

Mayer’s arrest comes days after Regina police charged the first two suspects in the shooting.

Anthony Nahbexie, 20, and Devon Nahbexie, 18, were arrested on Sept. 16 and jointly charged with attempted murder, reckless discharge of a firearm, conspiracy to commit murder and three other charges related to gun possession and stolen property.

Devon Nahbexie is also charged with two counts of possessing a firearm contrary to a prohibition order.

Police were called to a home on the 1000 block of Edgar Street shortly after 2 a.m. on Aug. 11. When officers arrived at the scene, they found an 11-year-old girl inside the home suffering from a gunshot wound.

She was rushed to hospital with injuries described as serious.

In a news conference Wednesday, Acting Chief Lorilee Davies said the service is in touch with the family but does not have specific details regarding her injuries.

“Our information is that she is continuing to recover,” she told reporters.

Investigators were able to determine that up to 20 shots were fired at the house – with police describing the shooting as “targeted.”

Even with the five week-long effort having led to three arrests – the investigation is still considered ongoing.
