After leading the Regina Red Sox to the 2025 Western Canadian Baseball League championship, Rye Pothakos has agreed to return as director of baseball operations and field manager. After the Red Sox finished the regular season with a 29-27 record, Pothakos guided the team through playoff series victories over the Medicine Hat Mavericks, Saskatoon Berries and Sylvan Lake Gulls to claim the third league championship in franchise history. In addition to managing last season, Pothakos has spent 10 seasons with the Red Sox as the director of scouting and baseball operations. “Rye has been a major part of our organization for more than a decade,” said Gary Brotzel, president of baseball operations for the Red Sox, in a media release. “His ability to consistently recruit a strong lineup has kept our club in contention year after year. That was never more evident than last season when he stepped in late to fill key holes in our lineup and ultimately helped bring a championship back to Regina.” Pothakos is also an associate scout with the Kansas City Royals and has managed, coached and scouted for the Greek National Team from 2017 to 2021. He has previously served as director of recruiting for a number of organizations, including the Saskatoon Yellow Jackets (WMBL), Thunder Bay Whiskey Jacks (Northwoods League), Elmira Pioneers (New England League), and Regina Cyclones (Prairie League). “I would like to thank the Red Sox organization for the opportunity to return as field manager in 2026,” Pathakos said in a media release. “I’m looking forward to another exciting year at Currie Field and working hard to provide our fans and community with another quality, talented team that we can all be very proud of.”
