With the WHL Championship Series set to begin, attention also turned to the future Wednesday with the 2026 WHL Prospects Draft. Three Saskatchewan teams made first-round selections. The Regina Pats picked ninth overall, the Saskatoon Blades selected 15th after trading up from 18th, and the Swift Current Broncos held back-to-back picks at 22nd and 23rd overall. The Pats selected goaltender Fraser Macdonald ninth overall. Macdonald played the 2025-26 season with the Canadian Athletic Club U15 AA program in the AEHL, posting a 2.87 goals-against average, a .925 save percentage and one shutout in 28 games. The Blades traded up to select centreman Teagan Dernisky of Delta, B.C., who played for Yale Hockey Academy’s U15 Prep team. Swift Current used the 22nd pick on defenceman Jacson Bradbeer from Yale Hockey Academy U15 Prep, before selecting defenceman Nathan Roberts of Delta Hockey Academy U15 Prep at 23rd overall. The Pats are also scheduled to pick 31st, 35th, 62nd, 123rd, 135th, 192nd, 207th, 215th and 238th overall. Rounds 2 through 12 are set for May 7.
