A new television show intended for preschool children is being filmed in Regina. How We Do It is in production at the John Hopkins Regina Soundstage. There are 27 episodes being filmed for the show’s first season. Topics such as friendship, feelings and other relevant subjects are being explored in the program. Inclusivity is a major focus, with many of the characters being played by people living with different disabilities. “This is one of our ways of making sure that everyone feels like they have a space to be present. To be a part of the conversation and that they feel like they deserve to be here, because everyone does,” said Adrian Dean, a producer of the show. Donovan Whyte plays Issac, an art teacher who uses a wheelchair. He is looking forward to the reactions of what the show is presenting. “I’d love to see how everyone, not just the disabled community, but everyone in general, how they see it,” he said. Allison Lang plays Carly, a character who uses a prosthetic leg. Lang does not recall a show which depicted children like her who were born different but treated like everyone else. “I didn’t know that other people like me existed in the world with disabilities and could be successful on television,” she said. “I think a show like this is really important for kids,” she added. Every point of production is made up almost entirely of Saskatchewan talent. The cast and crew is made up of about 50 people. It is estimated $1 million worth of business is coming into the province because of the program. “It is a trite testament to what can happen here in Saskatchewan when people are coming together. I think the results will show up on the screen,” said Dean. How We Do It will be available to watch on AMI-TV starting in July.
