Police in Durham Region are asking for the public’s help to find a pilot who departed from the Oshawa Executive Airport in a small plane at 8:30 a.m. on Friday.

David is 73 years old and is an experienced pilot, police said. They did not release his last name, but a media advisory on behalf of the man’s family identified him as David Douglas.

He departed the airport in a single-engine home-built aircraft and was expected to return at 9:30 a.m.

“Public assistance is requested immediately from anyone in that corridor who saw or heard a low-flying light aircraft on Friday morning,” the advisory stated.

David is described as standing five-foot-seven with a slim build. He has black/grey hair and a moustache.

The aircraft he was flying is described as a blue and yellow single home-built aircraft.

“David typically flies in the area south of Kawartha Lakes township and north of Lake Scugog, however the last known location of the aircraft is believed to be around Balsam Lake,” Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) said in a news release.

“(We are) working with the Ontario Provincial Police and the Trenton Joint Rescue Coordination Centre who are assisting in the search for the missing male.”
