The winners of the Hospitals of Regina Foundation’s (HRF) spring home lottery officially claimed their prizes, including the grand prize showhome in Emerald Park. This year’s spring lottery was a huge success and sold out before the early bird deadline. The grand prize showhome, worth $1.8 million, was won by Laszlo Berta of Regina, who has purchased several tickets over the years. “I never win anything and I thought, ‘I’m going to buy another time, last time, and if I’m not going to win, then I’m never going to buy again,’” he said. He said he will now definitely continue to purchase tickets in the HRF home lottery. Berta was met at the front door by HRF president and CEO Dino Sophocleous to collect his key. As part of his prize, Berta also received $50,000 to help cover property taxes or other expenses. Other winners include Dave Constable from Regina, who won the 50/50 prize, taking home $593,750, and Renzo Palandri from Regina, who took home the $10,000 membership prize. Lydia Burtnack from Arran, Sask., won the BMW & Bahamas early bird prize, the Lexus Luxury bonus prize went to Robyn Sinclair from Regina, and the Experience Italy VIP prize went to Michael Carey from Regina. The big winners were announced on Thursday, and a complete list of winners will be posted on the HRF’s website on May 8. Proceeds from the lottery supports medical programs at Regina’s hospitals, including the pediatric programs at the Regina General Hospital and the children’s program at the Wascana Rehabilitation Centre, among many others.
