The Globe Theatre is hosting an Indigenous production which features a humorous take on colonialism. The play, ‘Little Red Warrior and His Lawyer,’ was originally written more than 25 years ago but has been updated and revised since then. It has been performed across Canada and will celebrate its 100th performance on May 8. Kevin Loring, the playwright and director, said it’s important for Indigenous people to see their stories reflected in venues such as the Globe Theatre. He describes the play as a ‘trickster land claim fable,’ but with a bit of a twist. “Coyote is a trickster, and a transformer, and so I imagined what if the trickster transformed himself into a white man to tell a story about colonization. What would that be like? And if flew from there,” he explained. The production opens at the Globe Theatre on Friday and will run until May 17.
