The Saskatchewan Roughriders have signed Jaxon Ford, a national defensive back, to a one-year contract extension. Ford, selected 11th overall in the 2023 CFL draft, has played three seasons with the Riders. The Regina product, who spent four seasons with the University of Regina Rams after playing high school football with the Campbell Tartans, has played 31 regular season games with the Riders. The 6-foot-0, 210-pound Ford has made four starts at safety for the Riders. The 29-year-old has made 19 defensive tackles along with 11 special teams tackles. The grandson of Riders legend Alan Ford, he played 15 games in his rookie season but has battled injuries the past two seasons. A broken wrist limited Ford to six games in 2024 while a bone contusion on his right hand resulted in him starting the 2025 season on the one-game injury list. He then participated the next four games with a playing cast protecting the injury. He suited up for 10 games in 2025 and played in Saskatchewan’s 25-17 victory over the Montreal Alouettes in the Grey Cup game on Nov. 16. The win allowed Ford to join his grandfather as a Grey Cup champion as Al Ford won as a player in 1966 and as the Riders general manager in 1989.
